Terms of use

Freedom Tales is operated by Freedom Tales ("we", "us"). By using Freedom Tales you agree to these terms.

What Freedom Tales is

Freedom Tales is an interactive fiction service. When you play, a language model reads what you type and decides what happens next. Everything the story tells you — every line of narration, every character's reply — is generated by that model, not written or reviewed by a person in advance. See our AI disclosure for what that means in practice.

Who this is for

The first time you sign in, we ask two things before you can play: that you accept these terms and the privacy policy, and whether you are 18 years of age or older. The age answer is a self-declaration and we do not verify it.

Either answer lets you play. An account that has not confirmed its age is kept to material suitable for a general audience — no sexual content, no dwelling on injury, no strong language — and the content settings that relax any of that are not available on it. Changing the answer later, in Settings, is what turns them on, and withdrawing it there puts the stricter setting back from your next turn.

Your account

You sign in with a one-time code or link sent to your email address — there is no password. Keep access to that inbox secure; anyone who can read a sign-in code can sign in as you.

What you write

What you type is sent to the language model providers we use to run the story (see Privacy for which ones) and is stored so the story can remember it. Do not use Freedom Tales to generate, request, or store anything you would not want stored — see the moderation note in our privacy policy for the limits we place on that, and what happens if you cross them.

Purchases

Turns and subscriptions are purchased through Stripe. Purchased Turns do not expire and are not refunded once used to play — by completing a purchase you expressly ask that it begin immediately, which under EU consumer law waives the standard 14-day withdrawal right for digital content once delivery has started. Turns included with an active subscription lapse at the end of the billing period they were granted in.

Deleting your account

You can ask to delete your account at any time. Deleting removes your playthroughs, journal entries, canon, photographs and sign-in history. Records we are required to keep for accounting purposes (what you were charged and when) are kept, with your name and story content removed from them — see Privacy for the detail.

Changes

We may update these terms. Continuing to use Freedom Tales after a change means you accept the update.
